Fritz Reich took over his parents' house at Argenau 100, which at the time housed the post office, a rented apartment and a workshop in the basement. It used to be the transformer station for stagecoaches.

In the same year, he founded the Cafe Reich on the second floor of the house, and shortly afterwards Fritz Reich moved to the first floor when the tenants moved out, creating the Cafe "Grillstube" Reich.

He married Irma Hammerer from Egg and started a family with sons Markus (1969), Christian (1972) and daughter Simone (1979). In the same year, he expanded the café into an inn, creating 8 ultra-modern double rooms and a restaurant with seating for around 70 guests.

In 1990, the ageing restaurant was renovated. In 1995, son Christian took over the "Alte Post" inn, which was getting on in years at the time, and renovated it piece by piece until the first major renovation of the old building was due in 2000. In 1996, the inn specialized in motorcycling guests.

Christian Reich and Nicole Fechtig married in 1998 and started a family with David (1998) and Celine (1999).

In 2004, the rear building of the Alpen Hotel Post was built with the support of local craftsmen. This area includes spacious family suites as well as an adventure pool with Alpenspa, including a Finnish sauna, a steam bath, a small relaxation room and a whirlpool. Also in 2004, the children's playroom was extended with a connecting corridor to offer our youngest guests even more comfort. In addition, an underground parking garage was created.

In 2008, the new building was renovated again and an additional 4 junior suites and 3 family apartments were created.

In spring 2011, a brand new Alpen Hotel Post was built in a record time of 3 months and 3 weeks. The main building was enlarged and renovated. There are 21 top suites and rooms, a new kitchen, lobby, hotel bar, dining room, an original Bregenzerwald parlor, which offers a particularly cozy ambience for à la carte guests. Only local, genuine materials such as wood, stone, leather and metal were used in the renovation and new construction. Guests and hosts Christian and Nicole are delighted with the new Alpine architectural style.

In 2015, we renovated 7 family suites in the adjoining building with local craftsmen. The rooms were furnished by the company Troy in Bezau.
In addition, we bought a house for our employees opposite ADEG Berlinger. Which we also renovated later on.

In 2018, we converted our small playground with a swing and sandpit into an adventure playground with a giant tree, water pump, climbing area and sandpit. Our boss Christian worked day and night on the excavator and helped with the conversion so that it was finished on time.
The adults can relax on the sun terrace while the children play in the playground.
At the same time, the purchased staff house was converted. A large family home was turned into 10 rooms with a bathroom, kitchen and sleeping area.

In 2015, we acquired the staff house, which turned out to be the ideal place for a wine cellar. Our junior manager, Celine, had a long-held dream of turning this space into a wine cellar. During the Corona winter, when our hotel unfortunately had to remain closed, Celine started this project and did as much of the work as possible herself. She removed the plaster from the walls with a hammer and spent a whole day brushing the wooden ceiling herself. However, due to some leaks in the cellar, the work took longer than expected. This required digging up the parking lot and laying drainage before we were finally able to hold our first wine tasting with guests in the summer of 2023.

In November 2021, there was a lot going on at our hotel: 27 double rooms and family suites were newly renovated. On November 1st, the first order of business was to remove the furniture - and so, piece by piece, it was all taken out of the rooms to make room for something new.

Soon there was a lot of hustle and bustle: The craftsmen from Au were on site every day to set up the new furniture, connect pipes and design the rooms with great attention to detail. Only natural materials such as stone, wood and leather were used - for a modern, cozy and yet alpine feel-good ambience.

Today, we are over the moon with the result and are looking forward to presenting the newly renovated rooms to our guests. Your feedback is particularly important to us - we look forward to hearing how you like our new rooms!

From March 10 to July 19, 2025, the Alpen Hotel Post was hard at work. Under the direction of boss Christian as client and site manager, a real major project was completed in just four months: a hole over 16 meters deep was dug for the new technical room. This was followed by the underground car park, a slide park, a playground and our spacious outdoor summer pool with a length of over 14 meters including a cosy pool deck.

The entire wellness area has also been given a new lease of life since then, and our lobby has been refurbished with modern furniture. Together with our local craftsmen, we completed this major project in a very short space of time - a milestone in the history of our hotel.
